As a creative builder and change agent, Marcella’s mission is to promote a human centered healthcare system, built on empathy and radical collaboration where each patient is recognized and treated as an individual with unique experiences, hopes and expectations; where everyone is respected for the expertise that they can bring to the table, is empowered, engaged and has a voice in their own care. 

 

In her role as Chief Patient Officer she works with patients to understand the journey in their disease and to co-create meaningful solutions that can have an impact on their daily lives. She is also responsible for creating a culture of inclusivity where partnerships with all key stakeholders can take place.


Marcella is engaged with a variety of initiatives that focus on health care innovation and transformation. Among her relevant experiences, her participation to a 2 day special design workshop co-hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) that focused on engaging participants as partners in research; her role as Scientific Mentor and e-Patient Advisor for Stanford Medicine X; her role as a member of the Advisory Board for Greater Gift, and Scale LA, the hub of healthcare innovation in Los Angeles and South California. Marcella continues to serve as an expert for Pharma sponsored Advisory Boards where she is invited to offer her perspective on effective Patient Engagement in Clinical Trials.
