Marion Mackles, PT

Marion earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio in 1981 and her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from New York University in 1994, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude.

 

She began her career as a Physical Therapist at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine at New York University (now Langone) Medical Center and Tisch Hospital in New York City, where her clinical experiences included rotations in Medical, Surgical, Orthopedic and Neurological Rehabilitation. Marion spent two of her three years at the Rusk Institute on the Chest Physical Therapy and Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Units. 

 

During that time she worked extensively in the Recovery Room, Transplant, and Intensive Care Units. It was during this period that she developed her deep love for and devotion to the care of patients with cardiopulmonary dysfunction.

 

After leaving the Medical Center, Marion worked with the Visiting Nurse Service of New York as well as in various skilled nursing facilities where her practice focused on the principles of controlled breathing techniques, energy conservation and balance training in the geriatric population. In 1998, she joined the Pulmonary Wellness & Rehabilitation Center, as a Senior Physical Therapist and one of its two founding members.

 

Marion is the Chief of the Center’s Airway Clearance Unit which specializes in helping patients mobilize secretions through chest physical therapy, thoracic mobilization and adjunct clearance devices including the Acapella Valve, Flutter, Aerobika, Lung Flute and Quake. In 2017, Marion became certified in Rehabilitative Qigong and Tai Chi for Pulmonary Health.
